Fucking crows got into my coffee
Knocked both cups over
Mocha-colored streams
Flowing over the poolside table
And onto the ground.

Are you fucking kidding me?! Get the fuck outta here!
I yelled as I ran toward the table
Ignoring the children within earshot
And how my use of gutter English made it clear
I’m not Israeli.

Can’t sue those damn birds
That coffee wasn’t cheap
I stepped away for only a moment
And now the bottom of my
Day bag is damp with coffee.

What’s my problem?
I spent 5 days on an army base
Without coffee and didn’t bat an eye.
Now, when I’m in luxury
My addictions return?

I wiped down the table,
Tipped the pool boy who
Mopped up the floor
And remembered that some Israelis
Can’t spend on food for a day
What I just squandered on coffee.
