Bird talk
Birds in the early morning remind me of
Co-workers at the coffee machine
All chitter and chatter as they start the day.
Hey, how ya doin’?
What’s new with the nest?
Eaten any good food recently?
There’s a new spot you MUST try ….
Watch out for the new development down the road!
Is that what birds say?
Do birds sing for entertainment,
like humans do in the shower?
Do they trill to locate their tribe
the way we screech on social media?
Some birds are louder than others.
I’d like to eavesdrop and speak their language
— even though it’s none of my business —
To know my avian neighbors better
And then they quiet down.
Head somewhere else to forage.
Like the water cooler gaggle disbands,
To return to their work on spreadsheets.
New voices chirp in
Others leave
Someone always needs coffee.
Birds gotta sing.
